Women Rule! Empowering Women Leaders
    Across Sectors

    Social Action Campaign: Empower exceptional women
    from across sectors with the tools to implement their
    leadership “dreams” to positively impact their communities
    and inspire millions of women to heed the call to lead

    Clients and Partners: O, The Oprah Magazine; American
    Express and The White House Project

    The White House Project is an organization whose purpose is
    to encourage involvement and increase roles of leadership
    among women in all sectors of society, with particular
    emphasis on political activism.  The group's signature three-pronged program “Vote,
    Run, Lead” has educated thousands of women about the potential for leadership
    through a series of seminars including: “Go Vote,” which establishes the necessity of
    voting and the importance of an informed public; “Go Run,” a training session about
    political leadership and a demystification of the actual process of running for office;
    and “Go Lead,” the cultivation of skills necessary to be an effective political leader,
    including public speaking and debate.

    Recognizing the potential of millions of impassioned O, The Oprah Magazine readers
    as a group of individuals dedicated to making positive change within their own lives
    and communities, Cause & Affect designed a powerful social action campaign building
    on the reach of the magazine and the expertise of The White House Project.  The
    campaign was announced in the April 2008 issue of O, The Oprah Magazine and
    featured a call to action inviting readers to apply for a leadership training program
    developed exclusively for them by The White House Project.  The response was
    overwhelming, with over 3,000 applications received; judges selected 80 capable
    women from the arenas of politics, business, philanthropy and community activism to
    attend the training to be equipped with the tools to effectively lead and instigate
    change.  The winners completed the three-day training in June 2008, which was
    underwritten by American Express, and included customized executive coaching;
    targeted communication, fundraising and leadership skills development and
    participation in peer networks, with the ultimate purpose of each trainee developing
    her own "Blueprint for Change."  In addition to publishing an article on the training
    and women’s leadership and activism in the October 2008 issue, O, The Oprah
    Magazine followed the progress of the trainees—capturing their struggles and their
    successes—and reported back to the readership in subsequent issues.  At the
    conclusion of the program, trainees, applicants and O, The Oprah Magazine readers
    were encouraged to join The White House Project's Add Women Leadership Network
    in order to provide an environment of continued purpose and passion for women in
    positions of leadership.
